Update soon hopefully.
Jon Baken let me open for the Anamanaguchi show at Sprinkle Kingdom. So hyped. Thanks to everyone who came out. Hopefully I’ll get to play more when I’m back from my trip.
Slutever show at the church was rad. Those girls got everyone so hyped. They got everyone moving like crazy and it was only the first act of the night. They’re supposed to play another show this Weds. It’s my last night in the US. Should be fun.
Jon Baken and I started skating my freshman year of college. Didn’t hear his music till a few months ago, but I’m hooked.
Baken makes video game music with a guy named George and it’s mind blowing. They work together in NY when they’re both home over breaks. I think George goes to UCLA. Baken goes to Drexel here in Philly.
ANYWAY, they put out an album found here: http://www.georgeandjonathan.com/#bottom
It’s free to download and donations are appreciated. Take the time to download it, throw it on your iPod and jam. GNJ are the real deal.
I’ve seen GNJ play live 3 or 4 times, but only as Jon. George is finally coming!
This Friday, Sept 10th Jon is having a show at his house, Sprinkle Kingdom. It’s at 45th and Walnut, the show is free (although donations are GREATLY welcomed) and it’s BYOB. Anamanaguchi is playing which is going to be WILD!!! GNJ will be playing. So will locals Cheap Dinosaurs and Animal Style. I’m going to be playing a few songs to start it off. It goes down at 7pm.

BE THERE
So 2 of my friends from west philly put out an EP. It’s free and it’s really really good. I’ve known Rachel and Nicole for a few years and I’m psyched to see that they’re killing it. It’s really messy, dirty punk rock with a feel almost like Wavves or something. They sing about sex, dysfunctional relationships, and talking shit on dudes. They’re opening for The Best Coast at the church sept 7th and there’s an afterparty at 40th and baring afterward.
BE THERE
Woke up early on Friday to go get my visa from the Chinese consulate in NYC. Paperwork wasn’t right, wasted $60 and 6 hours of travel time. Came home empty handed. I started thinking “Is this a sign telling me not to go to China? Am I not supposed to do this?”
2 of my good friends and some kook they were with saw me at the skate park a few days earlier. They left after a bit and didn’t say bye. I was stressing.
Now everything with the homies is straight and my new paperwork is gonna come in soon. What does it mean?
Sometimes we have experiences that deter us from our goals. We interpret them as “signs” telling us not to do things. Sometimes they are signs. Most of the time they’re just little bumps that we gotta overcome.
So much can happen in a day. It can be something you know will change your life. Two weeks later the same experience might not mean a thing.
I can’t give you guidelines between signs and bumps. But I’ve experienced both.
